Our Services
The Mental Health Intensive Outpatient Program (MHIOP) in Virginia is a structured, therapeutic program aimed at supporting individuals experiencing moderate to severe mental health challenges. MHIOP serves as an intermediary level of care, designed for individuals who need more support than traditional outpatient therapy but do not require full-time inpatient care. Through a blend of evidence-based practices, group therapy, individual counseling, and psychoeducation, MHIOP promotes skill-building, recovery, and wellness for sustained mental health improvement.
Admissions Criteria
To be eligible for admission into MHIOP, clients must meet the following criteria:
1. Clinical Diagnosis:
Must have a primary diagnosis of a mental health disorder, including but not limited to anxiety disorders, mood disorders, PTSD, or other co-occurring disorders, as determined by a qualified mental health professional.
2. Treatment Needs:
Requires a higher level of care than traditional outpatient therapy but does not need 24-hour supervision or inpatient hospitalization.
Demonstrates motivation and willingness to participate in an intensive outpatient setting.
3. Functional Impairment:
Experiences functional impairments in daily life, such as difficulty managing work, school, social relationships, or self-care, due to mental health symptoms.
4. Risk Factors:
Low to moderate risk of self-harm or harm to others, managed with outpatient-level interventions.
5. Medication Compliance:
Must be stable on current medications or willing to engage in medication management if prescribed.
6. Exclusions:

Individuals with unmanaged or severe substance abuse issues may be referred to a specialized substance use disorder program.
Those with severe physical health conditions that require intensive medical care may need to stabilize before admission.
Referral Process
Referrals to MHIOP can come from healthcare providers, mental health professionals, community agencies, family members, or through self-referral. After an initial assessment, a treatment plan will be developed to address each client's unique mental health goals and needs.
